Sponsored by the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), this conferences includes presentations and posters showcasing recent research and applications of human factors/ergonomics.  It is the premier human factors/ergonomics conference.   

 

Applied Ergonomics Conference:  Gaylord Opryland Resort, Nashville, Tennessee, March 26-29, 2012

Sponsored by the IIE, and the Global Organization of Ergonomics (GoErgo), this conference focuses ergonomics applications including safety, health, and performance related to the workplace.  Of particular interest is the competition for the 'Ergo Cup' presented annually for outstanding product or process design solutions.

 

Applied Human Factors & Ergonomics Conference:  Hilton San Francisco, Union Square, San Francisco, California, July 20-25, 2012

This highly international conference includes both research and application in human factors, including focuses on ergonomics areas of : physical, cognitive, social and organizational , cross-cultural aspects of decision making, modeling and usability evaluation, human digital modeling, healthcare and special populations,  manufacturing,  transportation, affective and pleasurable design, and service engineering.

 

ErgoExpo:  Caesars Palace, Los Vegas, Nevada, November 30 - December 2, 2011

ErgoExpo was formerly known as the National Ergonomics Conference and Exposition (NECE).  The conference focuses on industrial ergonomics and primarily one application-based information.  Safety, injury prevention, productivity, and getting buy-in from supervisors and workers are highlighted.  

 

International Ergonomics Association Conference: Recife, Brazil, February 12-16, 2012

This years conference focus is on Designing a Sustainable Future and is jointly sponsored by the Union of Latin-American Ergonomics Societies (ULAERGO) and the Brazilian Ergonomics Association ABERGO).

General Ergonomics is owned and run by:

Dr. Valerie Rice, Ph.D., CPE, OTR/L, FAOTA, IMC 

Dr. Rice has a doctorate in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research with a specialization in Human Factors/Ergonomics, as well as a masters degree in both Health Care Administration and Occupational Therapy.  She is a Certified Professional Ergonomist (CPE).  She is also a registered and licensed Occupational Therapist, and a Fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Dr. Rice (COL, R) completed 25 years of active duty in the U.S. Army.  

During her career, she has conducted research and provided practical applications within specialty areas of ergonomics, including physical/industrial ergonomics, healthcare, safety, education, special populations, children and macroergonomics.  She has published extensively, including areas such as medical human factors, cognitive ergonomics (learning, attention deficit disorder, stress), industrial ergonomics (injury prevention, safety, physically demanding tasks), user evaluation, and macroergonomics.

During her work with children, she has helped children and their parents address design issues in their homes, schools, and programs of learning.  She has also provided patient treatment to children with developmental, physical, and cognitive injuries and illnesses.

She is a past president of the Board of Certification for Professional Ergonomics, served on the Board of Directors for the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES), and as Chair of the Medical Special Interest Section of HFES.  She also served on the American Occupational Therapy Association Accreditation (AOTA) Council and as Chair of the AOTA Work and Industry Workgroup.  She is on the editorial board of the journal entitled Work: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation.

Most recently, she co-edited the text "Ergonomics for Children: Designing Places and Products for Toddlers to Teens" and previously "Ergonomics in Health Care and Rehabilitation".  She has authored/co-authored over 100 publications and presentations on topics within ergonomics and health care.
